Annabanana by Anna
Saar was
conceived in the fall of 2005 as the
designer’s acknowledgement of a decades-long
passion for fabric and ribbon. While a
student at Sarah Lawrence College, Anna
worked part-time for Marimekko, where her
love of textiles originated and her fabric
collection got its start.
This collection continued to expand over the
years and quilting classes followed; soon
the bright geometric textiles were wrought
into traditionally patterned quilt tops,
baby quilts and table runners which were
shared with friends. More recently, the
ribbon & trim shops of New York’s garment
district have proven to be a rich and
unpredictable source of material --
grosgrain ribbons with stripes, polka-dots &
prints, and acetates with unique & playful
patterns, as well as vintage ribbons
featuring patterns & plaids are fashioned
into watchbands and belts.
Anna grew up in New Jersey and now makes her
home in the Lower East Side of Manhattan
with her husband, Thomas McGonigle, a
writer. The bulk of their living space is
dominated by books and fabric. |
